I am MORE than thrilled to announce that I have my next tattoo planned. It will be Lord of the Rings related!

I have been planning a Lord of the Rings tattoo for a LONG time, but could never 100% decide on what I wanted. I knew that I wanted my next tattoo to be something that WASN'T words. I already have quite a few literary tattoos using sentences and words (Harry Potter, Romeo and Juliet, and The Beatles), and they cost more, and (to me, at least) seem to hurt more since the work is more intricate.

Personally, I like image tattoos better. Originally, I had planned on my LOTR tattoo being the phrase from the Fellowship:

Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens

In all honesty, I might still get that, but I decided that I did indeed want a LOTR image tattoo as well.

Now, most commonly, one will one of the following things as a LOTR tattoo:

1. The one ring.
2. The script from the one ring
3. Random quotes translated into Elvish
4. The White Tree of Gondor
5. A leaf of Lorien

Personally, I don't like to have tattoos that I KNOW a lot of people already have, so I sat down to figure out what I wanted that was unique, but also that had very deep meaning, and I came up with this:

I knew I wanted something from The Silmarillion. It is so wonderful and beautiful, and I love it so much. I really, really wanted to get a Silmaril done, but there were never any official photos released, nor were they truly given physical description by Tolkien. He did have a few drawings of them, but they honestly were very plain, and I did not feel they captured the beauty that was supposed to be about them.

I did, however, find this wonderful picture of the two trees of Valinor (of which the Silmarils were made), Laurelin and Telperion. If you have never read the Silmarillion, a very quick explanation is that it is a story of the creation of the earth. Telperion blossomed silver flowers, and Laurelin golden fruit. A shit ton of stuff happens, and the trees begin to die. The last flower was put into the sky and became the moon, and the last fruit became the sun. It's really a beautiful story.

But, long story short, this is what I want, probably about half the size, and on the top of my right arm.

Thoughts?

My husband's 40th birthday is this summer, and I was thinking about gifting him a little prompting to finally get a tattoo that he's been talking about for 10 years now.  He wants to get the Gates of Moria, but has always said he hesitates because he's certain it will be prohibitively expensive, and because he's worried the detail won't come out well.  I googled, and I found what I think would be a good enough image that an artist could create a stencil...what do you think?

I have several tattoos, but they are all over 10 years old, so I don't even know where to start...anyone in the Chicago area with a LoTR tattoo who would like to recommend an artist?  Anyone with the Gates who wants to give me a range of ideas for what it might cost?  Is it possible to do in one sitting?  (he has no tattoos, fwiw) I just want to cover all my bases so I can say "yay!  we're going to do this, or at least talk to X artist."

TIA

Today I got my White Tree of Gondor done. It hurt like crazy towards the end, but it was totally worth it. I'm in love! Done by Joe @ Mos Eisley's in Grand Rapids, MI.

Thanks for looking!

Hi guys,

So, I've been wanting a LotR-inspired tattoo for quite some time now, and I've finally decided on what I want to get. I want "Eä!" (the word spoken to bring Middle-Earth into being) in Tengwar, but when I try to translate it, I keep running across two different versions: this one and this one. As of yet, I haven't been able to figure out which one is correct.

Personally, I'm more partial to the first one, but I'd like to make sure it's accurate before I get it put on me permanently. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, I've been thinking about this for a while, and I'm almost certain by now that I'm going to get my first tattoo in the next month or so, and it's going to be LOTR. So, I've spent all night trolling the net looking for what I want, and I THINK I've found it, but I thought I'd check with you guys first just to make sure it's accurate.

There's a forum I've found where people are transcribing anything you request into Tengwar and it's so gorgeous, so I think that's what I'll go with. I came across this transcribe of the word 'hope', and I'm in love with it, but I don't want to go and get it tattooed on me if it isn't accurate. Anybody have any idea?

Thanks! :)
